The Garage (R&R Power Steering Pump) - Friday 3rd October 2014

Remove Headlight Cluster
Today I was assigned a solo task which involved the R&R of a Steering Pump on a Ford Fiesta, which was a first for me. In order to gain full and easy access to the Pump, the OSF headlight cluster first had to be removed.  I then removed the steering fluid from the reservoir using a compressed air drainer, prior to disconnecting the hoses that connect to the pump housing.

Using a Serpentine Belt kit, the tension could then be taken off of the belt in order to remove it from the pump pulley.  With the 3 securing bolts removed the unit was then able to be removed ready for the arrival of the new pump, and subsequent re-installation.  Unfortunately, due to notification of the late arrival of the replacement part, I had to bail out before its arrival to attend my paid employment. However the task was well within my capabilities and I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity presented.  Much progress had also been made to the recent expansion of the Garage with the rapid construction of the new Administrative Office above the Reception area.  Still not complete but moving at a pace nonetheless.  It has a very good view of the Workshop Floor, so observation of individual productiveness will not be an issue for much longer!
